Default How to recover password from an inactive XP?

I have an HD where it is installed a windows xp that don't boot anymore.
From that HD I have extracted all my old mails and files, but i can't
restore my email passwords and connection manager password. I tried many
password recovery tools, but unfortunatelly they work only if are installed
on the active operating system.
How to get over this inconvenient?

Thank you in advance, Paolo

For the logon password:

Your ISP knows your logon password. Ask them.

For an identity password:

Or:
http://www.mindspring.com/~majik/identites.htm

Thank you to answering.
My ISP takes 3-4 weeks to send me the login and password. So I would like
to use my account first.
Do you have idea where the passwords are stored?

My ISP can tell me over the phone in 3 or 4 minutes. I would dump yours in a
heartbeat with that kind of support.

The only other way is with a recovery tool, that you said would not work in
your situation.
