Default OE is changing unread e-mails to read

Please help! I have used OE for ages to download/upload e-mails onto hotmail.

Recently, OE has been automatically changing the status of some of my new
unread e-mails to read. This even happens whilst I am viewing the list of
e-mails in my inbox - they just change to read. My firewall and antivirus is
up-to-date. I wondered if I had a hacker, so changed my hotmail password,
but it is still happening.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to rectify this problem.

Many thanks,
Helen.

You may not be alone, Helen. Unfortunately, it may be too soon for a
resolution to this (apparently recent) issue. Hopefully someone will come
upon the answer, or it will be resolved in due course.

No it doesn't appear to be happening on www.hotmail.com.

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try the account in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add
new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old
identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one (Don't
bother with any Hotmail folders), and then (3) delete the old one (File
Identities Manage Identities).

If the same behavior is observed in the new identity, the problem's most
likely on MSN/Hotmail's end.
