Assuming that you mean the message list or Folder List, right click a blank
spot on your desktop and choose Properties.
Go to the Appearances tab.
Click the Advanced button if there is one.
In the Item drop-down box select Icon.
Change its font size. That's what OE uses there.

Asking my why will cause me to grumble. I don't know.
