I was in the middle of installing Computer Associates' Antispam program and
the program was taking a long time to index my current messages and slowing up the computer's performance. I tried to cancel the indexing, but my computer seemed to freeze, so I did a hard shut-down using the power button. When I rebooted and opened OE, two OE folders were just gone. I believe I have located the missing dbx files on my computer at: c:\documents and settings\Lisa\local settings\application data\identities\{lots of numbers and letters}\microsoft\outlook express How can I get the folders to restore to the OE interface? -- Lisa |

Hi Lisa,
It is hard to say the extent of the corruption that may have occurred. An easy first step would be to create a new folder in OE with the exact same name as that indicated by the DBX file. Close OE, then restart to see if the folder now contains the lost messages. If this fails you could try a message recovery program. Suggestion: Steve Cochran's DBXtract http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx Cost is $5. New features: 1. Extract from multiple files sequentially. 2. Store messages under a subdirectory corresponding to the folder name. There is also a better, newer recovery program available for about $30. Look for it at the same site. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Lisa" wrote in message ... Hi Lisa,
If the messages do not appear after creating the new folder and reopening OE there is another step to try. Temporarily rename or move the DBX file in question to new (temporary) folder. This folder could be on the desktop or elsewhere. Drag a message into the OE folder. Close OE Replace the new folder.dbx file in the message store with the DBX file that was previously renamed or moved. Restart OE. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Kuay Tim" wrote in message ... Hi Lisa, It is hard to say the extent of the corruption that may have occurred. Move the two DBX files to a different Windows folder. Open OE. Create two new folders with the exact same names. Open each of the new folders once. Close OE. Delete the two NEW dbx files. Move the two old dbx files back. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. Don't send mail. |
