Default Having trouble sending emails

I have used OE6 for quite a long time and havent had the
problem before of mail sitting in the Out mail box and
actually being sent but not moving to sent mail ???
I get a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark
in it and the word Error along side right at the bottom
of
my computer screen .( Have the task bar on the right hand
side of the screen)

In the little screen that come up when you hit 'send/
receive' I get a message 'Some errors occurred processing
the requested tasks' . Please review list of errors but
is no list ??'

I had an email from a friend this morning asking me why I
sent the same message 5 times last night .......... Well
4 times it didnt appear to have been sent and the 5th time
it did move to 'sent mail' ! Soooooooo she got 5

This has been happening for 2 or 3 days .

Have I done something to upset OE ??

Would love a few 'how to fix this ' ideas, please

Many thanks

Bye

Your Outbox is damaged, so it keeps thinking it should send the message.
Close OE and delete the file "Outbox.dbx". OE will create a new one when it
starts and the problem should then be fixed.

Default Having trouble sending emails

Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat for
Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder
you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx}
and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

Hi Bruce
Thanks for these details instructions ............ I
followed these........... The out box went to the recycle
bin and when I opened OE there was hopefully another
out box
Sent a test message to myself and the same thing
happened . It stayed in the out box but arrived OK in
Margs mail box ? and I got the same error message down
the bottom on the screen of a little yellow triangle
Tried leaving this test message in the out mail box and
going thru this procedure again but IT didnt like that
...said was being used by another . So moved my test
message out and tried again ............. So now have 2
out mail boxes in the recycled bin and the problem
persists . This computer is nearly 4 years old and never
had this happen before or with prevous computers ??

Is there something else I can try ?

See if it will delete while working offline. File | Work Offline & View |
Layout: Uncheck the Preview Pane.

Did you also delete Sent Items with OE closed after moving any messages you
want to save to a user created folder?

Did you turn off e-mail scanning?

This problem can also be caused by a corrupt Sent Items.
Create a new folder and move your messages out of Sent Items.
Close OE and delete Sent items.dbx .

The process worked doing it 'off line' but tried another
test message to myself
and had to go on line to send and the problem is still
there .....test message stayed in the out mail but
popped up in Margs mail box , so sort of duplicated itself

And this time I got the little triangle error message
again

Sorry yourve lost me with that sentence
??.................... If OE is closed you cant do
anything ? Can you ? The emails I sent to myself are
still in Margs mail box . I just deleted them from the
out mail box and they just go into deleted mail so thats
not a user created folder

Did you turn off e-mail scanning?

I use AVG Pro 7.5 ......... Along side email scanning
it says ' No plugin active'
Sorry I dont know exactly what that means or how to turn
off any email scanning it might be doing ??

Its a beatiful sunny afternoon over on this side of the
world and I have to go out soon for a few hours so you
might not hear back from me till tomorrow morning ESDT
