I have no idea what to do. I have even tried recovering my whole system's
data(which worked for a few hours) It shows a password in the box, but will not accept it. I have tried retyping it. Deleting user. Nothing seems to work. Thanks for any help?? Sorry to piggy back on this thread but I get the same message but on only one
of my three identities; the other two work just fine. I've tried deleting the offending identity and recreating it using a different identity name but without any luck. Would I need to start from scratch with my accounts? Craig "Tom Koch" wrote: "bg77" wrote in message ... There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. OE stores usernames and passwords in Window's Protected Storage Service (also called pstore). If the entry in the pstore part of the registry is incorrect, the best way to fix it is simply to delete the account, log off and back on so that the registry is guaranteed to be updated, and the create the account from scratch. -- Tom Koch, former MVP for IE/Outlook Express 1997-2005 http://www.insideoe.com Awareness is free. |

I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound obtuse but when you state to delete the
account are you referring to the primary account or just the one associated with that particular identity? You also stated that the WPSS is locatetd in the registry; as I'm not opposed to tweaking the registry a smidge where might it be found? "Tom Koch" wrote: "cbcrocker" wrote in message ... I mean the mail or news account that is not working properly, shown under Tools|Accounts. If it continues to fail after recreating the account, then it is time to try a new Identity (on the File menu). You also stated that the WPSS is locatetd in the registry; as I'm not opposed to tweaking the registry a smidge where might it be found? Passwords are *encoded* in the registry. It's not something that you can tweak manually. You can view protected storage entries using something like this: http://www.insideoe.com/resources/tools.htm#pstore For more on OE's file and registry structure, see http://www.insideoe.com/files/ . -- Tom Koch, former MVP for IE/Outlook Express 1997-2005 http://www.insideoe.com Awareness is free. |

The problem may not have been on your PC or Outlook Express. The slow
download is an indication the issue was not local. Sometimes it's hard to tell without using another PC to verify a connection problem. Often it's best to calm oneself when facing such a problem. I know from experience that panic can set in. A key question is what may have happened to cause an issue, such as a crash or power failure. If nothing comes to mind there is a good chance the problem lies elsewhere. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "bg77" wrote in message ...
