Since about Aug16, no new msgs appear in subscribed newsgroups (on my
ISP). No error msg is raised. However, if I subscribe to a group I have never subscribed before, all msgs will download. Msnews works fine - this seems to affect only my ISP's newsgroups. I attempted Tools-...-Clean Up Now, to reset or delete a group. I deleted the entire news account and recreated it. I created a new identity and a new news account. I installed the Thunderbird newsreader. The same thing happens when I use Thunderbird - some groups show no msgs after Aug16. I asked the ISP (netvigator in HK) and they couldn't explain it. Is there a registry or other setting on my machine that could prevent me from requesting msgs after a given date? I think this happened once before and I managed to fix it, but I don't remember how. It seems unlikely that my ISP stopped supporting all my subscribed groups and no others, so it's likely something on my machine. I ran an app called "CleanUp" (which deletes unused reg entries and temp files) about that time, and I use Norton Internet Security, but I have searched the web for months and can't find this problem mentioned. Thanks for any help. |

I was about to suggest File|Folder|Compact All Folders do that the OE index file "Folders.dbx" is cleaned and compacted, but then you added the bit about Thunderbird. It has no connection whatsoever to OE. Still, after resetting or deleting a group or account you should always compact all folders before trying to add the group/account back into OE. Thanks for any help. Try uninstalling Norton and see if the problem continues. -- Tom Koch, former MVP for IE/Outlook Express 1997-2005 http://www.insideoe.com Awareness is free. |

Uncheck the option under Tools | Options | Read to download xxx headers at a
time. That will give you all the messages. Disable email scanning in Norton. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 steve "edx" wrote in message ...
