I upgraded to IE7 and now I cannot switch identies without rebooting my
computer. I choose switch identities in Outlook Express 6.0 and Outlook
Express closes (like it used to) but does not restart (it used to restart and
open the switched identity). If I try to relaunch OE it says OE is already
running. If I reboot and launch OE it opens in the identity I tried to
switch to... I hope that makes sense. Any thoughts on how to fix?

Michael, I am having exactly the same problem after installing IE7. Outlook
Express 6 will not switch identities. It appears to shut down when doing the
switch, but the process keeps running and the switch never takes place. If I
kill the OE6 processs and then start OE, the switch then completes.

The documents you reference all deal with problems with OE5 or 5.5 and are
two years old. How do they relate to this problem apparently caused by the
IE7 upgrade?

OE 5, 5.5 and 6 are all substantially the same program. Most
problems/fixes apply equally to all of them even if the articles don't
mention them.

Installing IE7 shouldn't have had any effect on OE. However, some
people have noted OE problems after installing IE7, possible due to a
corrupted install.

I checked each doc you referenced. The first doesn't seem to apply because I
don't have MSN Messentger installed. The second doesn't apply as there is no
"changing" value in for either identity key in the registry. I don't see how
the third would apply since I have been using the same identities for years
with no problems until after the IE7 install. And as I mentioned, if I kill
the OE process and then start it up again the swith happens just fine, so
something is hosing up the OE restart when it is switching identities.

I did reinstall IE7, but there is no change. I am still having the same
problem.

David/Others:

I am having a similar problem, but some times the identity switch works
properly, and others, it fails and I have to reboot. I uninstalled MSN
Messenger. Still no good. Have you found a fix?
