When attempting to restore a OE dbx file (which
of course corresponds to a "folder" in OE) from backups of the entire OE folder, can one simply restore the single file, or is there some sort of interdependency with the "Folders.dbx" file. For example, if a group of e-mails were deleted from the "Sent Items" folder, and the "Deleted Items" folder had also been emptied, could one simply restore a previously saved copy of the "Sent Items.dbx" file known to contain the deleted items? Yes, as long as the folder you want to restore exists in OE. Since OE will
always recreate Sent Items if one does not exist, your specific example will work. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com "Bill" wrote in message ink.net... Thanks Frank. Can I infer from your reply post that
ANY file that previuosly existed in OE can be directly replaced by a backup copy? Bill "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote in message ... Yes, as long as the folder you want to restore exists in OE. No.
If it does not exist OE won't see the DBX file when you put it there. 1. Open OE. 2. Create a folder with _exactly_ the same name. 3. Open the folder. 4. Close OE. 5. Overwrite the new DBX file with the backed up file. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com "Bill" wrote in message ink.net... Thanks Frank. Make sure the backup does not have the Read Only attribute checked.
Read Only would be checked if the backup came from a CD. -- Ronald Sommer "Bill" wrote in message nk.net... : Got it Frank, thanks. : Bill : : : "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote in message : ... : No. : If it does not exist OE won't see the DBX file when you put it there. : 1. If you have a single dbx file that currently is not in your OE folder tree,
you have to manually restore it. See the last paragraph her and the link within to restore individual dbx files: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Bill" wrote in message ink.net... Its the last paragraph under OE now, as I added a section for Windows Mail
in Vista. There is no comparable method of importing a dbx file in Vista. steve "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ...
