Hello,
My outlook express in XP had been configured to read IMAP emails. Have many subfolders - and copies of IMAP emails IS in my machine. Now XP went under and I have new XP installed but Unable to restore the look and the feel of my old IMAP in my new outlook express. Issue two: I also had parallel mozill Imap mail on the same machine - in other word I can read the same message(s) BOTH in outlook express and Mozilla 1.x email on the same old machine. What is the best way to restore thsi same look and feel of my old IMAP folders. Not many writeup on the subject out there. Thanks |

All you should have to do in OE is go to Tools, Accounts, Mail and Add
you mail account as an IMAP account. When OE connects to the mail server it will download the folder structure and messages. As for issue two, you just need to do the same thing in your other mail program. That's the beauty of IMAP. Any number of mail programs and/or computers can access the same mail account and see the same messages. That's because all the messages are stored/managed on the mail server. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "mylevant" wrote in message ... The assumption that IMAP is accessible. YOu are right.
in my case it IS NOT - I have downloaded all of my email to my current machine and the IMAP serrver is not there anymore. So who can you force the new outlookexpress to read the imap ( folders ) each of which is a email subfolder. this is a very tricky and found no document ion on this on the web for the past 6 weeks, Thanks "Michael Santovec" wrote: All you should have to do in OE is go to Tools, Accounts, Mail and Add you mail account as an IMAP account. So you are saying that you no longer have mail service from IMAP server
supplier. Do you have any mail service anymore? If so is it POP3 access? What you should have in your backup would be a series of DBX files, one per folder/subfolder. Those don't hold any subfolder structure information. That information is in the Folders.DBX file. But I don't know that it would allow you to restore an IMAP structure to Local Folders. You may be use these procedures on the DBX files: How to import a single mail folder (*.dbx) http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/how.htm#importdbx For an alternate description, see the last paragraph he http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx but you'd have to recreate the subfolder structure. To share the mail between OE and another mail program you have to go the IMAP route. If your ISP doesn't provide IMAP support, an option is to run your own local mail server that accesses the ISP via POP3 and then provides IMAP support to your local PCs. For examples of such a programs, see: Mercury Mail Transport System http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercury.htm Hamster "Classic" http://www.arcorhome.de/newshamster/...amster_en.html -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "mylevant" wrote in message ... So you are saying that you don't have any e-mail account any more but
have so archived mail that you want to read via Outlook Express. Did you try the procedure a referenced previously for restoring a single DBX file? Try that on one of the IMAP DBX files you saved and see if the messages are readable. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "ashley" wrote in message ...
