After resetting Outlook Express (as per KB article) and creating a new
identityto solve an issue that was happening during the closure of OE, I have a problem on the import /export of Messages and Address book. I cannot export or import any messages and/or address book using the wizard and I cannot even share the contacts with Outlook (by Address Book/Tools/Options). For this reason I have been force to manually copy my old databases in the new identity (and this luckily works fine). When I open the wizard it doesn't propose any format/program in which I can export/import, that is the list is blank. I am running Windows XP SP2 and OE6 with IE7. Any help is welcome. Thanks, -- Mda |

Can you open the old identity and verify the messages are still there? If
so, open the new identity and File | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and then click on the old identity and follow through. For the Address Book: Open the Address Book in the old identity and File | Export to any place on your HDD that is easy for you. My Documents is fine. Then, open the Address Book in the new identity and File | Import and point to where you saved it. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "mda" wrote in message ... The problem is that the import/export wizard doesn't work anymore! It doesn't
even give me the choice. Manually I have been able to import everything (copying my databases in the new identity folder), but still I am not able to import some messages that by mistake I have only in Outlook! Moreover I have no possility to share the contacts between OE and Outlook! Thanks, -- Mda "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Can you open the old identity and verify the messages are still there? Regarding sharing contacts with Outlook, see:
To share Contacts between Outlook and Outlook Express http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/oeshare.htm To import from Outlook, that program must be installed on the same PC with Outlook Express (OE). Outlook must be the default MAPI client, not OE. It uses the default profile of Outlook to import data from. So the messages must be accessible in Outlook in order to import them. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "mda" wrote in message ... I have tried also that, but the option in the Outlook Express (Windows)
Address Book stays shaded and I cannot select it. Anyone is able to tell me why the Outllok Import (and Export) doesn't work. Is it possible that I have to re-register the OEimport.dll and WABimp.dll? A couple of things.
The menu item in OE for sharing is only enabled if you are using Outlook98 or some configurations of Outlook 2000. For other configurations of Outlook 2000 and for Outlook 2002 and 2003, the manual registry change is used. If you have enabled sharing, you cannot import/export the address book in OE. That's because OE doesn't have an address book, it using the Outlook contacts and any import/export must be done in Outlook. If you open the address book in OE and look at Help, About Address book it will tall you the name of the address book WAB file being used. If that field is blank, then it is using the Outlook Contacts. If you want to import/export mail from/to Outlook97/98/2000+ then Outlook must be installed and working on that PC. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "mda" wrote in message ...
