Well my problem is that is not what is happening. The reply seems to
pick arbitrarily an address to reply to. The example I gave was of 2
emails from the same person to the same account which, when replied to,
used different From: addresses. Strange, but true.

A reply will use the account that the message was sent to regardless of
which one is set as the default account. You would have to use the
drop-down
arrow to change it.

I have 2 Verizon email accounts. When I do a Reply (or Reply All or
Forward) in Outlook Express, the From: address will be either of the 2

If the two accounts are actually aliases for the same mailbox on the server,
OE will reply from whichever account downloaded the message, which may not
be the account that it was addressed to. The first account to access the
mail server will download all messages in that mailbox at the time.
