Default Reinstall not working

When I click on mail links on sites I get the message:

'Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not
properly installed'

I'm running Windows XP with IE6 with SP2

I followed the repair/reinstall instructions on this page for SP1 :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3183...578&sid=global.

I edited the Registry as per instructions for Outlook Express 6

and reinstalled IE6 but still the same thing occurs.

Help appreciated.

Thanks

Default Reinstall not working

Try this and see if it helps (unless you are using IE7, but then you would
have told us that, right?):

Go to Start | Run and type the following:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg
(Check the path to msimn.exe to make sure that is correct)

Make certain to include the quotations marks and the space between the
ending quotation mark and the slash.

Then open Internet Explorer and go to Tools\Internet Options\Programs and
set OE as the default mail (and news) program.
