Default THE 'ACCOUNTS' OPTION MISSING

For some reason the 'accounts' option has become missing in the Tools menu.
I can see the accounts when I force send/receive but cannot access them.

I am running XP SP2 home edition with IE v. 6.0.2900.2180.

I have tried an XP Repair install, ran SFC /scannow and following method
for repair and install. Neither of these repair methods worked.Even MS
support http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378 did not work.

When I ran
[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: IsInstalled
Setting for Value Data: [Change the Value from 1 to 0]
Exit Registry

the system told me on reboot, that OE had been removed. However when I
clicked on iesetup.exe (v. 6.0.2800.1106) stored on my PC, I got the message

"Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed
on this system.
Setup cannot continue."

I have tried a lot of other 'repairs' but cannot bring back the 'Account'
option in the Tools menu bar.

I found another message on the web i.e.

"Trying to find some sort of /repair switch with the IE-installer
(ie6setup.exe downloaded from the Microsoft website), which did not exist, I
tried the /? switch in the run box which revealed a box, saying there was
(amongst more) a /Q switch which disabled the installer prompt. And woohoo!
without the prompt the installer seemed to skip the version check and went
over to the OE reinstall, leaving IE untouched and here I am e-mailing
again. (Oh, there was no reboot necessary after the reinstall, it OE worked
well right away.)

So, in short: consider to add the remark that entering the IE-installer path
in the Run box and adding the /Q switch will prevent the installer from
checking upon the installed IE version."

I would like to try this but to be frank I don't understand what he is
saying. What is this /? or /Q switch and what is the command line??

Can anyone help please?

Thanks a lot - it worked !!!!

And thank you for such a quick reply.!

However since we are here, if I need to reinstall IE 6 what would be the
preferred method?
As you can see I have tried a lot of things to accomplish this without
success.

I would really welcome your help.

Although the title of this KB article says it's written for XP, it works for
earlier operating systems, with the exception of Windows 95.

YW & thanks for posting back.

However since we are here, if I need to reinstall IE 6 what would be the
preferred method?

Since you're running WinXP SP2 and I assume it came preinstalled on the
machine, 318378 should work for you but you'd need to follow the
instructions under "Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Reinstall or repair
Windows XP".
