Hello,
This is a two-fold problem: 1) On NG microsoft.public.windows.me.general I can not get any new messages pass 12/8/2006. 2) When posting to the above NG I also can't view my own posts. (Through emails, which work - I have been referred to this NG....(I hope it posts!) Running Win ME, IE 6.0 SP1, OE 6.0 I have tried the following without any progress: 1) Unsubscribed from the NG and re-subscribed. Downloaded messages still go up to 12/8/2006 (Nothing new shows up from that date on!) 2) Have reset through priorities and cleared messages. Same problem. 3) Have restored the system twice. First to 12/6/2006 (no change) and then to 11/19/2006. These options did not change anything either. The only thing I noticed is that I've been getting Script errors when connecting to OE thru my ISP. No major changes have been made to my PC and I have been running the antivirus program (Avast), S&D and the maintenance wizard to clean files, run risk scan and defrag every other day. No problems show up. Should you need more info please let me know. I would appreciater any help. Ed |

View | Current View. Check Show all messages & Group messages by
conversation. Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. Then, right click on the newsgroup in the Folder Tree | Properties | Local File | Reset. Switch to another folder and then back and all available messages will be downloaded again. It would be a good idea to compact your folders when you're done. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Ed Meza" wrote in message news ![]() Hello, This is a two-fold problem: 1) On NG microsoft.public.windows.me.general I can not get any new messages pass 12/8/2006. 2) When posting to the above NG I also can't view my own posts. ![]() Bruce Since Ed cannot see your reply, I emailed your post. His reply is below. George Gee --------------------------------------------------------------- Hi George, Thank you. I have followed the instructions from Bruce Hagen of the OE NG, which you had emailed me. You won't believe how long of a process this has been (I forgot to mention in my post that I'm on dialup.) Results? I am back to a worse scenario: 1) Now, messages for both ME NG and OE NG only go up to 12/8/2006. 2) Because of the above condition, if you will, I now can't see neither new posts, nor my own posts in either NG. I've elected not to post any further, since I can not view the new messages, nor can I see my own posts. Note that I don't wish to be perceived as indifferent - I just don't have access! Sad, isn't it? Just wanted to make a point on Bruce's instructions, the first step specified to "uncheck": Get XXX headers at a time......Well, when the reset switch was cleared on Properties, I had 40 thousand plus messages downloaded on OE NG - this took 3 hours to complete (why it went back to Dec. 14, 2005 - I don't know). The compacting took another hour. In closing and to repeat myself, this has been an exercise in frustration, especially when I'm now ready to throw this PC out the window. I'm curious about what you indicate on your last email - that is, the Earthlink reporting of similar problems as mine, and will go ahead and check this out per your suggestion. Please keep me posted on any new developments. Thanks. I also want to thank you for your patience and truly appreciate your concern and follow up. What next? Feel free to share this message with Bruce Hagen, since I don't know his email address. Cheers, Ed "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... View | Current View. This is his real address?
1: He needs to visit Window Updates 2: He would have better luck using MSNews as his newsreader for MS newsgroups. Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader for MSNews: http://www.insideoe.com/resources/co...tm#setupmsnews And/or: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm 3: There is the option of using the Web Interface instead of OE: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.aspx 4: If using OE as a newsreader, there is also this option. If you want to download newsgroups, but don't want hundreds, or thousands, of messages, you can create a message rule such as this: Tools | Message Rules | News. Box 1: Where the message was sent more than days ago Box 2: Delete it & Stop processing more rules Box 3: Click on "Days" and choose the # of days you want. Name the rule. In Tools | Options | Read - Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. When you go to, or subscribe to a newsgroup, it will only download the messages for the number of days you selected. Opinions on this vary, but in Tools | Accounts | News | Properties | General, I have Include this account when checking for new messages checked. When OE automatically checks for mail, (however often you have it set for), it will also download any new news messages at the same time. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "George Gee" wrote in message ... Thank you Bruce and George for your patience. The problem appears to be
resolved as of tonight. I had followed prior instructions sent by you both and had not made any headway. George insisted I click on a link he sent me and voilą!..all messages downloaded up to date. If it was a server error, no one is admitting this. Anyway, thanks aagain and this issue can now be closed. Ed "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ...
