Just had XP installed...used to have ME. I always had "WORD" when using ME
but now, with ZP, I don't. I do have a program called "Wordpad". Is that XP's replacement for "WORD"? I miss WORD as it had spellcheck and grammar check which "Wordpad" doesn't have. Do I have to go back to the computer store and actually buy the program called "WORD" and then install it myself? Thanks |

Word, Works, Office are all add-ons. Go to the Download Center:

If you had Word before (or the entire Office suite), you've already paid for
it. Windows ME uses Word 2000. Don't you have the original CDs that you got with ME? It should have CDs for the Office Suite, or at least for Word, since you had it. You just have to reinstall it with the XP you installed. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Word, Works, Office are all add-ons. Most OEM software such as Word that comes bundled with a pc will not
transfer to another pc and O/S, as it's tied to the pc it came with. "someone" wrote in message ... If you had Word before (or the entire Office suite), you've already paid for it. I initially had Dell's 4100 series, Windows ME, with Office suite tied into
it. Somehow one day I could not get it to boot up, even with a boot up disc. I eventually took it to a local geek who installed Windows XP Pro and also installed all my back up CDs, including Office suite. I still have the same pc, but a different OS. The OP indicated that he did basically what I did, had a new OS installed in his old pc. "Tom Willett" wrote in message ... Hi John,
Word is not included with the operating system, but (the limited) WordPad is included. It is possible the Word you had came bundled from the OEM (your PC maker). Check your local computer store or look for what you want at an online store. One way to get Microsoft Word is with Microsoft Works Suite. Yes, it will need to be installed. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "John Merrill" wrote in message ... Just had XP installed...used to have ME. Thanks If you want Word, you will have to buy it at a store or on line. A free alternative is Open Office. Check it out at http://www.openoffice.org/ Its Writer is very similar to Word and far superior to Word Pad. Alias |
