Outlook Express works generally fine but there are some details that could
possibly be solved. I often get the message when synchronising: “Outlook Express: Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details.” 1st tab: “TASKS: Check for new messages on ‘hotmail’. Status: Executing” (the blue arrow in the lh corner keeps pointing/”flying” into the little tray as if some download is happening. “Connection”: usually it says the correct name of my ISP, but sometimes it says “Local Area connection” “Download all messages from Inbox. Status:” this is empty. It’s hanging. Sometimes I get a red “X” saying that it “failed”. 2nd tab: “Errors” is empty. Today I noticed that Outlook prompts me to “work offline” or “retry” connecting. However, I am “connected” – internet connection is fine. I am still able to send and receive all the messages. I created a new mail profile and the synchronisation I think worked fine for the first time but failed later again. Is it possible that the Local Folders that I imported after the first successful download cause this problem? I used to run IE 6 but have today upgraded to 7 (not without hickups). OE is the same as it was before. Additionally I often get the symptom that Hotmail messages are downloaded twice. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296447/en-us). I can solve this problem with the fix that is suggested but it keeps coming back. Any help would be welcome. Regards Blackredgold1964 |

Dear mikey and Frank,
Thanks for your suggestions regarding the Spam filtering. I have Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet security 2005. I went into the “email” section and there are 3 sub sections: 1. “Mail scan”: I unticked “Enable incoming mail scanning (POP3)” and unticked this in the “outgoing mail” tab, too. 2. “Webmail scan” - ”Enable webmail scanning” was already unticked (should it be ticked?) 3. “Anti Spam” – “Enable Anti Spam” – this was unticked I did some test mails with all the above unticked and then back to the original setting (i.e. under 1. “Mail Scan” ticked again) but it does not seem to make a difference. Sometimes it produces errors but most of the times it doesn’t. I did a couple of further test messages, thinking that it might make a difference if it says in the Synchronisation Window: “connection” column “Nildram” (My ISP) or “Local Area connection”. I suspected the “Local Area connection” to be the culprit but I am none the wiser, as eventually it worked with both settings. (I don’t even know what causes it to say sometimes “Local Area Connection” or sometimes “Nildram.” Or whether it’s relevant.) I restarted OE without and without any messages “in the pipeline” and the synchronisation ran fine. Just one detail I noticed which might be unrelated to my Outlook problem but which I am mentioning anyway. When I installed IE7 yesterday I selected the Phishing Filter and this now shows in Internet Properties – Advanced: “Phishing Filter”: this has an “!” and the radio button in “Turn on automatic Website checking”. If you have any further ideas, then please let me know. .... Just when I thought OE was running fine I got a familiar error, this time
when trying to delete a mail: “Outlook Express: An unknown error has occurred.
