... Are there any plans to update outlook express 6 for XP users? I am especially interested in any plans to add a spam filter. Thanks for any help! Windows Live Mail Desktop beta (http://ideas.live.com) has a junk mail filter and works on WinXP. You will have to register your hotmail address and get a Live ID if you don't have a Passport. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup. Don't send mail. |

Actually, Thunderbird DOES work with Hotmail, cos I've been trying it! You
have to install 2 Thunderbird extensions - Webmail and Hotmail support. Thunderbird then contacts Hotmail (or other Webmail clients) by simulating POP3. Seems to work fine. Take care. *Anything* (that does POP) will work with Hotmail accounts (and most other webmail services for that matter): FreePOPs [1] is your friend. If you are using FREE hotmail service then you can only use MS email clients - such as OE or OL. You seem to be quite sure when you say: "Anything* (that does POP) will work with Hotmail accounts (and most other webmail services for that matter)" Have you tried using other email clients to download messages from FREE hotmail account? When I say FREE hotmail account, I mean old accounts which were set to use OE or OL to download messages before the charging came into force. I have tried using Netscape but it didn't work. Other free accounts you can use a http://www.aim.com http://www.yahoo.co.uk Yahoo.co.uk is an english version that allows you to use OE or OL or for that matter anything to download and post messages. Same with aim.com (aol free service). |

youll be able to use new ones
"Camron" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help Bruce! Another question though...Will XP users be able to use the new mail client that is coming out with Vista? Or are we "stuck" with outlook express? Camron "Bruce Hagen" wrote: There will never be any new features for OE. Since Vista is using a new client, OE is dead in the water. As long as operating systems that use OE are supported, OE will continue to get security and bug updates, but that's it. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Camron" wrote in message ... You seem to be quite sure when you say: "Anything* (that does POP) will work with Hotmail accounts (and most other webmail services for that matter)" No, I did not say that. I said that *with* ": FreePOPs [1] is your friend." added. I.e. the solution is FreePOPs. The type of email client is irrelevant, as long, as I said, it does POP. Have you tried using other email clients to download messages from FREE hotmail account? When I say FREE hotmail account, I mean old accounts which were set to use OE or OL to download messages before the charging came into force. I have not tried myself, but others have. See the details at the website whose URL you snipped (http://freepops.sourceforge.net. No offense, but I don't appreciate when people silently snip the most relevant parts. When such posters post as "ANONYMOUS", I like it even less. I have tried using Netscape but it didn't work. Of course it didn't. Unless you used some additional software *like* FreePOPs. See also LKC's response. Other free accounts you can use a http://www.aim.com http://www.yahoo.co.uk Yahoo.co.uk is an english version that allows you to use OE or OL or for that matter anything to download and post messages. Same with aim.com (aol free service). With FreePOPs you can use a multitude of free accounts. See the website for details. |
