After having fixed the problem with opening OE6, I cannot now send
email. Talked to Comcast and everything they suggested failed. I get the error: An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C013E |

Check out these two links. The *Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,* part of this
error message does not make sense if you have the correct account settings, especially Port & SSL. http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ...s.ashx?Id=2315 And: http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ...s.ashx?Id=2288 -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "steve podleski" wrote in message oups.com... Bruce,
Those two links were the suggested fixes by Comcast, but they did not work. I don't understand the error message regarding SSL since it is not used. Bruce Hagen wrote: Check out these two links. Hi Steve,
Errors in this range usually indicate a corrupted DBX (OE database) file. For this specific error a user reported renaming Pop3uidl.dbx fixed the problem. This file tracks which messages have been downloaded to OE. However, this may not be the answer -- another file (in the OE message store folder) may be involved. Close OE before deleting or renaming the file. If messages have been kept on the server they will be downloaded again. If this does not prove to be the problem file other steps can be taken, such as moving all files from the message store, creating new files and empty OE folders. Let us know if renaming or deleting the Pop3uidl.dbx file restores functionality. Close Outlook Express First .. Right-click the Pop3uidl.dbx file, and then click Rename. .. Rename the file to Pop3uidl.old, and then click OK. .. Start Outlook Express. Open the Store Folder Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each identity has its own store folder. a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store Folder. b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder. c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end. d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy. e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store folder. f.. Close Outlook Express before working with the message store files. Using Keyboard Shortcuts for Transfer of the Folder Path Courtesy of: Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "steve podleski" wrote in message oups.com... Tim,
Renaming the Pop3uidl.dbx file did not work. Removing all the .dbx files and starting fresh did work. Now it seems that one of the .dbx files may be causing the problem. How can I find out which file is causing the problem without loading each file one at a time (about 100 or more files)? I wish you had continued with you first thread.
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/probl...rors.htm#crash Did you try importing the dbx files? The corrupt file should not import. Sending problems are usually caused by a corrupt Outbox and/or Sent Items. -- Ronald Sommer "steve podleski" wrote in message ups.com... : Tim, : : Renaming the Pop3uidl.dbx file did not work. : : Removing all the .dbx files and starting fresh did work. : : Now it seems that one of the .dbx files may be causing the problem. : How can I find out which file is causing the problem without loading : each file one at a time (about 100 or more files)? : : Kuay Tim wrote: : Hi Steve, : : Errors in this range usually indicate a corrupted DBX (OE database) file. : For this specific error a user reported renaming Pop3uidl.dbx fixed the : problem. Ron,
I renamed the old Sent and Outbox files and imported all the dbx files. Worked ok. Thank you very much. Ron Sommer wrote: This also works: a..
