What are the options for dealing with yenc encoding in messages?
I was using yenc32 which worked ok when I was using IE6. With this, if you quickly do a 'save as' immediately after the message appears, you can usually get a save before it gets bound up looking for links. (then get not responding) Now that I have IE7, it seems to go searching for links immediately and goes out to lunch. I have the IE7 with OE6 on an XP Pro machine. Is there a new version of OE that is to be released? tia - Oppie |

OE is not the best choice for serious downloading of multipart binaries in any case and I assume WinMail won't be either. I don't expect to see a yEnc-supporting MS product until a proper yEnc standard is written. In the meantime, I use Newsrover. Xnews is a passable freebie alternative. -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |

I'm surprised that you haven't seen the problem before. It's nothing
new to IE7. There will be no new version of OE. And it's unlikely any Microsoft program will ever support yEnc. You can reduce the problem if you turn off the Preview Pane (View, Layout) to avoid the delays with OE searching for hyperlinks. You can add a button to the tool bar for this. However, you'll still run into the problem after OE completes the combine and presents the completed message. That's because OE doesn't support yEnc and treats it as simple text. In that case, OE searches for hyperlinks in the text and for a large message that can take a while (several minutes). It you are patient, it will eventually finish and you can proceed with a manual decoder for yEnc. To avoid the problem, use a yEnc decoder that runs as a proxy server. That converts the yEnc before OE sees it (typically to Uuencode) and avoids the hyperlink searching in the combined message. You still need to turn off the preview pane to avoid the problem for partial messages before combining. For some additional information, see the yEnc section of: Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Oppie" wrote in message ... There is MS Outlook Express for every other version of Windows. I didn't see any obvious menu items for yEnc in Windows Live Mail Desktop (Beta). -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys. |

I use YProxy for decoding yenc.
works as a proxy server so OE never sees the raw yenc data. no longer see the searching for hyperlinks message. you need to search to find the FREE version. "Oppie" wrote in message ...
