Leave email scanning disabled.
Your current Identity may have been damaged by the anti-virus application, especially if its the default Main Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming "Leave copies of messages on the server" stays checked now, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage Identities). If you continue to find the option unchecked when you close/open OE or reboot, understand that options/settings in several third-party applications may be disallowing the change from "sticking".. These include Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free and Pro). To avoid such corruption in futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting your message store. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Ace Tan wrote: Hi Frank, Seems like the setting for Leave a copy on server still goes off after I have disable email scanning. Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM wrote: "Ace Tan" wrote in message ... i have no anti-spam applications installed on the pc. Scanning of inoming/outgoing email by anti-virus application is activated. What is happening is that the anti-virus is interposing a proxy between OE and the mail server. It is telling OE that the mail was sent even though the server timed out and the mail was never actually sent. Turn off email scanning. See my first post. |
