Could someone pls tell me the following,I have Earthlink broadband as my
ISP,IE7.0 and OE 6.0 an default mail client.When I receive an attachment and
I try to open it I get a window askink for my earthlink passworn for that web
based email which I dont want to use How can I get the OE program to open the
attachment after I open the email in OE?Any help appreciated

File type? Are you saving the attachment first to your hard drive before
trying to open it? Windows version? And are you completely updated with
all security patches?

Is that perhaps an EML attachment?

When EarthLink is installed, it steals the file association for EML
files (Outlook Express Mail Message) and calls them EarthLink Mail
Message.

I found the following regarding the post both from Jim, and Michael,I have
Win XP home,the attachment is an eml type,have the latest security
updates,and am not saving msg to hard drive before openong,as for Michaels'
msg trying to run msimn/reg. it could not be found. then trying the folder
options there was no file type with eml Outlook Express Mail Manager just eml
Earthlink Mail manager but no mention of Outlook Express
If I cant answer both responses at once please let me know and I will resend

Save the attachment to the desktop. Then right click or shift right click
on it and choose Open With. Then choose Outlook Express (msimn.exe) as the
program to be used to open the file. Then check the box that says to always
open with this program.

To akk,apparently earthlink had stolen the association to open attachments in
email format.following the directions provided I mads OE the pgm to open eml
attachments

You didn't entry the command right. There needs to be at least one
space before the /reg, as in:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and the quotes are required. If you get a not found error message, then
there is a typo in your command. For best results, copy/paste the above
into the Run box.
