I have WinXP, IE 7and my ISP is AT&T Yahoo. I have always had Outlook
Express as my default email but also use my Yahoo email. A week ago, I found I could not send email in OE. I can receive email and my newsgroups work just fine. When I first click on my email a box comes up that says I am not connected and to retry. After I retry, I am connected. When I try to send an email, I get an error. The connection to the server has failed, Account:"POP.prodigy.yahoo.com'Server:'smtp.prodig y.yahoo.com',Protocol:SMTP, Port:25, Secure(SSL):NO, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number 0x800CCC0E I have cleaned my temp. files, compacted, my virus scan does not scan my emails. I don't know what else to do and hope someone will enlighten me. Thanks for your help. |

10061 = Connection refused.
Do you have SMTP Authentication enabled? In OE this is specified in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers, Outgoing Mail Server, My Server Requires Authentication. Are you using a dial-up connection? In Tools, Accounts, Mail, do you have more than one mail account set up? -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Jean LF" wrote in message ... Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary: paste Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /paste http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Jean LF wrote: I have WinXP, IE 7and my ISP is AT&T Yahoo. I have SMTP Authentication enabled. I am using dial-up. I have only one
mail account set up in Outlook Express. My virus does not scan my email, I have that turned off. Thanks for your reply. 10061 = Connection refused. Do you have SMTP Authentication enabled? Check with your ISP for the current, correct settings (SBC/Global purchased
Prodigy years ago SBC then purchased the vestiges of ATT.net and rebranded itself as AT&T). Then again... My virus does not scan my email, I have that turned off. Having it enabled may have damaged your current identity. Try the account in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage Identities). To avoid such corruption in futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting your message store. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Jean LF wrote: I have SMTP Authentication enabled. I am using dial-up.
