going to cause pain because as I visited various newsgroups, it took quite a
long time to download messages. But, after that was done for each NG, it's
as fast as before, and OE seems to have reordered the deck, so to speak. Far

With respect to the general problem with folders.dbx, its a very very
complicated file and one byte change will mess it up, so I guess the
answer is you'll just have to live with it. I don't see the problems
you've alluded to, but they do happen on their own at times.

Its a bug with the numbering where it doesn't reflect the actual time of the
message, so new messages don't always get downloaded first. You can go to a
NG and download only 50 messages and then use Edit | Catch up to mark all on
the server as read and then go back and uncheck the download xxx at a time,
so you don't have to download massive numbers of headers in huge NGs.

This can be caused by an anti-spam program or an anti-virus set to scan
email.

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added
protection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server names
in OE.

So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff doesn't
have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If you
