Default Why the recycle bin??????

I noticed recently that when O.E. 6 clears up space or compresses files.I
think that what it's doing. It places them into my RECYCLE BIN? All as (bak.
files) I think.
How do I stop it from sending this to my Recyle Bin?

Default Why the recycle bin??????

This is due to a recent update. Now when you compact, a copy of your dbx
files are sent to the Recycle Bin in the event that something should go
wrong and messages, or entire folders are lost when you are compacting.

Many people do not back up Outlook Express on a regular basis. This new
mandatory backup is something people have been asking for quite awhile as we
spend a lot of time helping people getting their messages back, and they
have to purchase a tool to recover messages.

You can empty the Recycle Bin any time you want and the bak files will go
away until you compact again.

For more info, see the information outlined in red he
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2

If you don't currently back up OE regularly, I would suggest you get this,
or a similar tool, (freeware):

This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is
written in red. That is referring to a different program.

Is there a way to create a folder for this, instead of using the recycle bin
or OEQB? some people have a habit of clearing the recycle bin without
checking it.

No. You can still use OEQB though.

These are only /copies/ of your dbx files and are meant to be deleted if
there is no loss of messages after you compact. Every thing else is as it
always was and your dbx files still exist intact. There is no way to send
them any place else.

OEQB is a program of its own and the folder you create for it can be located
any place on your C drive should you choose to use the program.

See the Notes section of http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918069 for an

So that's what the "Copying {something}" message that's started appearing
when I compact means...

It sure slows down the compacting process but I suppose it's worth the extra
security.

I'd say it's a good trade off. They can be restored in minutes and no need
to pay $24.95, (Sorry Steve), for DBXpress to get the messages back.

Used to take me about 5 seconds, and now about 10. But I do it at least
twice a week.

Still it's all rather moot, isn't it? I mean what with WinMail replacing OE
in Vista, it's kind of like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic or
something.

True, but since there are still people using everything in-between 9x and
XP, I think XP will still be used by many for quite some time. Who knows.
Vista may hit an iceberg. eg
