Did you just download MS updates, including Internet Explorer 7? I haven't downloaded any MS updates in quite a while--certainly not since 2006. "JoeSpareBedroom" wrote in message ... Don't always believe what your ISP says. Make sure you don't have any
antivirus software set to scan email. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 If you did, try removing your mail account, closing and reopening OE, and then adding it back again after disabling email scanning. Otherwise, see if you can telnet to the pop3 server and it works okay. If not, its the ISP or it could be a connection problem on your computer and you need to check for spyware and winsock problems. See here to telnet: http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...pop3telnet.htm steve "Ron Head" wrote in message ... Bruce asked: "That error is usually caused by e-mail scanning. Did you
disable it as Steve suggested?" I THOUGHT I had, but when I checked, my Norton's was still (or again!) scanning e-mail. After making CERTAIN that e-mail scanning was turned off, I tried removing the e-mail account, closing and opening OE, and then adding the account back again. I'm still unable to send or receive mail, and the error message remains the same: A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. I think you should remove Norton altogether. It terrorizes OE.
I use AVG Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 or: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when you see the option. Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Ron Head" wrote in message ...
