Default Wierd Happening OE6

Hi:

I had an event happen today with OE 6 that I never have had happen. I have
two local folders entitled Saved Incoming Email and the other Saved Outgoing
Email that I use to place emails in that I want to retain.

I have Comcast and they have been great lately for blocking spam mail. I
also have a Blocked Senders List. Normally one of two things happen. First
if it's on my Blocked Senders List it is automatically placed in the Deleted
Items folder. Second if it is spam that gets through, which is rarely, then
it of course appears in my Inbox.

However, today I had two spam emails that were automatically placed in my
Saved Incoming Email folder. I have no idea as to how these two emails would
automatically be placed in this folder.

Would appreciate comments if anyone has an explanation of above.

Thanks

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File
Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all
folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into
the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Hi Pa Bear:

Thanks again for your timely post. I basically am doing all that you
recommended except I was not "working offline" when compacting folders. I
never knew this before and appreciate your referenced website.

Is there any problem in deleting the Main Identity if you have created a
New Identity? I was thinking of my setting where it says "Use this identify
when starting a program". Apparently I would need to change this setting
after the creation of a New Identity and before deleting the Main Identity?

Thanks

If you delete the Main Identity and there are no other identities other than
the one you just created, don't worry about it.

No problem. In fact, deleting the main identity is probably a good idea
after you've imported all the email you want.
