Recently some of the links in my mss will open EI7 (which i don't want -- my
default is FF, which usually opens), with an error page that says address not valid (when it is -- it works fine in copy/paste) and address res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm# . I think this is only happening with links in mss that i've moved to drafts from other folders. But even in such mss, only some links do this. And it can be fixed by retyping each one separately -- tho i'm asking here for an easier solution. Brand new laptop, used safely and lots protection so probly not infected -- too new and few mss for dbx corruption? But i did try a few email clients before settling (for now!) on OE, so some mss have been around. Oh, i've repeatedly gone to set defaults, and as far as i can see it sets but does not save, even after restart -- i've tried non-MS and custom. But obviously it's more than that, as this problem has just started, and again is only occasional and picky -- most links work fine. Thx in advance |

Thx in advance for someone to please read my ms and resp. This auto-resp does
not apply, for a couple of reasons. Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults | Browser: IE /must/ be chosen here if you're running IE7 and want such links to work. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ |

There was nothing /auto/ about my reply. If you want links in OE to open,
then IE7 must be the default browser. You said Fire Fox was set as default. Please don't post using chat room abbreviations. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "linkie" wrote in message news ![]() Thx in advance for someone to please read my ms and resp. 1 - I meant no offense,
2 - but your post was not a (helpful/relevant) response, for a few reasons, first of which is that i had read your identical response to several previous posts and took care to explain how my situation was different. 3 - OE will in fact open other browsers, does so for others, and usually does so for me. 4 - My problem is more than that, because IE opens but has an unexplained error in reading a valid address, has only just started to do this, only does it with certain links, stops when i (identically) retype them, etc as i've explained. 5 - I returned here to say that i tried and failed to repeat the problem by moving another message to drafts which was like the one with the problem: it also was a draft in a previous client which i had to import via a temporary folder. But the problem did not repeat. 6 - I'm also curious about something: My understanding is that antitrust considerations require that OE and other components of Windows (and perhaps other MS applications) must be interoperable with non-MS but appropriate/functionally compatible applications, eg with Firefox as a browser. Am i wrong? 7 - If you cannot help me, please refer me to a better place to post. Thank you. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: There was nothing /auto/ about my reply. I have FireFox as my default browser on my home pc, and I can confirm that
links in OE open up in FF just fine. Is it safe to say that this problem occurred /after/ upgrading to IE7? If
so, you will get better help here. For help with IE7, Please post to the Internet Explorer General Newsgroup. In your Newsreader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...plorer.general On the Web: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...orer. general Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. No one here works for MS, so it would not be out place to interpret legal issues. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "linkie" wrote in message ... 1 - I meant no offense, 2 - but your post was not a (helpful/relevant) response, for a few reasons, first of which is that i had read your identical response to several previous posts and took care to explain how my situation was different.
