Greetings,

My desk top PC has lost the ability to open Outlook Express attachments. In
“Tools-Options-Security�, the two boxes that block attachments are unchecked.
I get an error message reading,

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the folders option control panel.�

When I go to the “Open With� window, I find that the "Outlook Express"
option is missing. How do I install the Outlook Express option back into
the Open With window?

After you clicked Open With, did you click Choose Program at the bottom?

I spoke too soon. Is this for all attachments, or some?

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always
use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open
these attachments in the future.

They only opens in Notpad and it's a mess. Would take too long to clean up for use.

Yes, it has quite a few items but not OE

What is the file extension? If it is not an eml, OE may not be listed. If it
is a jpg for instance, you would not want to open it with OE, but a picture
viewer.

What is the file extension? Let me give you an example. If I right click on
a thumbnail in My Pictures | Open With, OE is not listed because it can't
open the program, a jpg or gif.

But if I right click on an eml file, such as a e-mail template I have saved,
then when I Choose Program, OE is listed.

I think you're trying to open a file that is not meant to be opened with OE,
but another program.

I have to go for a few hours, Joe. If you find that this is an eml file
attachment, then see this.

The file ext. are eml but I can't open email attachments that I previously opened before the prob. surfaced. I can open all old and new email attachments on my backup PC and all attachments that can't be opened on the prob. pc get saved on a flash drive and no problem opening on the backup PC.
