Default OE6 problem in new computer

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its
the default Main Identity.

I only have one ........ ? I got this new machine
just 24 hrs ago

Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity
(File
Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well,
(1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import
messages from the old identity into the new one, and
then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage
Identities).

The computer techs transfered my old mail folders from old
computer to new machine . Wasnt much in any folder except
sent mail and marg's mail

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages.
Move them to local folders created for this purpose.

Never much mail in the 'In mai'l box. Can be in Sent mail
??

Be a sensible option if OE have the facility to have a
few mail boxes for sent mail ?

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

I do most of the time ( except when I forget ! )

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2]
and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE
folders while "working offline".

The automatic one came up around mid day

More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while
Windows is automatically compacting your message store.

Wouldnt ever do that !

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature
can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It
provides no additional protection.

This machine has Trend micro PC-Cillen ....... Never
used that before
Do you think that could be the problem ?? I am finding
it abit irritating
Its not a freebie

Used to run AVG Pro on old machine and spydoctor . Still
have spy doctor

Thanks

bye

The Main Identity can become damaged in minutes after you start using it.
Many of us create a new identity immediately after getting a new machine, or
reinstalling the OS. So it is worth a try to create a new one.

Create a signature and see if it inserts correctly. If it does, import your
messages and address book from the old identity and delete it when you are
sure you have everything out of it you need, and the new one is working
fine.

If PCcillin is configured to scan incoming/outgoing mail, that can corrrupt
an identity in 5 minutes. If you're running Trend Micro Internet Security
and its anti-spam component is enabled, it can cause corruption/problems,
too. Disable it as well.

I have 11 premade signatures & I use them all from time to
time

Tell us more about these premade signatures and where they're located. Did
you import them from an older machine? Did you use them in OE on the older
machine? Are they HTML signatures?

Sysfader: msinn.exe Application error
the instruction at "0x7c931c6b" referenced memory could
not be "read"

I found an old KB article that pertains to the above error but it's no good
for your fully-patched WinXP SP2 machine
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828133). I'm wondering if the source of
the signatures (i.e., the machine on which you created them) is playing a
roll here?

Are you /inserting/ the signatures via Insert
Signature or the Insert toolbar button?

Hi PA Bear

Just via insert signature. Didnt know there was another
way ??

Marg Morters wrote:
My new computer is coming up with an application error
message when I try to attach a signature to an email

this reads

Sysfader: msinn.exe Application error
the instruction at "0x7c931c6b" referenced memory could
not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on cancell to debug the program

Click on either and your email is zapped :-)

I was advised to go to START RUN type in
c:/ipconfig/flushdns
. Did that and get an different error message of
Windows
cant find it ????
