Hi Arvin,
Find Message problems are related to a damaged Folders.dbx file, OR a number of left over Search Folder (xxx).dbx files. The search files are normally deleted after use, but may remain if Search is used a lot. Look for these (Search Folder or Search) files first and delete them. If the problem remains delete the master indexing file Folders.dbx. Deleting Folders.dbx (close OE first) will result in a loss of folder hierarchy and subscribed newsgroups. It will be regenerated when OE starts. OE folders can then be dragged back into place -- newsgroups will have to be re-subscribed to (have a list available). See the Microsoft KB article: OLEXP: "Find Message" Dialog Box Does Not Function By Any Criteria http://support.microsoft.com/default...58&Product=oex Open the Store Folder Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each identity has its own store folder. a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store Folder. b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder. c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end. d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy. e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store folder. f.. Close Outlook Express before working with the message store files. Using Keyboard Shortcuts for Transfer of the Folder Path Courtesy of: Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options. -- -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Arvin Rex" wrote in message ... Windows, IE and OE versions, please? Is this sudden, new behavior or an
ongoing problem? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Arvin Rex wrote: FIND_MESSAGE never finds any messages modified in 2007. Very annoying!!! How can I fix this? |

It appears specific to this computer. The R&R of the DBX folders seems drastic but will do if I must; please advise . Thanks |

The R&R of the DBX folders seems drastic but will do if I must; please advise. 1. Tools Options Maintenance Store folder will reveal the location of your identity's store (http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain). Write it down. In WinXP, Win2K and Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start Control Panel Folder Options View. 2. Close OE. 3. Navigate to your store, find and delete "Search Folder.dbx" as well as any instances of "Search Folder (1).dbx", "Search Folder (2).dbx", etc. 4. Open OE. 5. Move any messages you want to keep that are in Sent Items or Deleted Items to other folders you've created for this purpose. 6. Compact all folders (http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact). 7. If still no joy, close OE, find & delete "Folders.dbx" in your store. Do doing so means that you will lose the mail tree structure (Folders pane), the list of newsgroups on all newsservers, all synchronization options/settings, and most message rules will need to be edited. General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting your message store. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) |
