Default OE Filtering

A few weeks ago I joined this group for help with an OE problem I
had. Appreciated the suggestions received. Decided to stay and
receive digests for further info as might be helpful in making better
usage of OE. Or making me more skilled. But I'm drowning in repeats
of the entire message thread in most messages. Few here seem to
truncate! So, my question ..

Is it possible to add some sort of mail filter or similar as will get
rid of all the "old" threads in the digests as will allow me to read
"new" info in the digests without having to wade through the repeats
of the repeats of the repeats?

1. Access this and other newsgroups directly (a) via the newsserver (b) in a
newsreader, not Google Groups.

2. Assuming you're using OE as your newsreader now: View Current View
Hide read messages. [You'll find a lot of other useful settings here.]

Yes. The Microsoft Communities Thread view does this.
Doubleclick on a message in a thread to see it. Note that
its proper operation depends on conventional use of the plain text
quote character (). In particular messages from posters who don't use
Plaint Text mode, or who don't use that quote character will appear unedited.
Also, beware of posters who try to add their comments on top of a previous
poster's blank line. In that case you have to click on the [Click to show
or hide original message or reply text] to see what was added.

Example:
