Good Day ...
Since updating IE6 to IE7, I have not been able to 'combine & decode' newsgroup files. Here is what I do and and get when using IE7: ***************************************** 1. I create a temp folder in my Local Folders 2. I copy desired files from desired newsgroup into the temp folder 3. I select all files and then select Combine & Decode from the Message area 4. The message ... seaarching for hyperlinks ... appears and usually will run till hell freezes over; I have to 'X' off Outlook Express to stop the process 5. End result ... messages not Combined & Decoded and therefore, file not available to save With IE6 ... using Steps 1 - 3 above, the messages will be Combined and Decoded and, I am then able to save that file. Thanks for your time and consideration. Jim *************************** |

One, there is no need to move them to another folder. Just use the Ctrl key
while selecting all parts of the message so that all of them are highlighted. To disable the "searching for hyperlinks" just disable the Preview Pane by adding a button for that task to the Toolbar (right click the Toolbar, select Customize and add the Preview button). When you then click on Message/Combine and Decode a new window will open allowing you to arrange the messages if such is needed and then the combined/attached files will appear in a line just below the Subject. You can then save any or all of the files to any folder you desire. -- Jim Pickering MVP-Windows Mail applications https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please reply only to the newsgroup. Jim ...
Thank you for your quick reply. I did what you directed me to do. Here is what happened: 1. I selected a file containing 127 parts. I highlighted all and selected Combine and Decode. 2. That opened a Combine and Decode window. 3. When the Combine and Decode finished another window opened 4. At the point ... 'searching for hyperlinks' was displayed and I was not able to select 'Save as' from the File tab 5. the searching for hyperlinks completely tied up Outlook Express and the latest window became 'non responsive.' I had to close OE. Any clues ? Thanks again. Jim *********************************************** "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... One, there is no need to move them to another folder. Thank you for your help. I have turned off the Preview Pane. If I were to wait for the 'Searching for Hyperlinks' to end I would need several more lifetimes. .... are there any 'settings' that I should have 'on or off?' Take care. Jim *********************************** "mikey" wrote in message ... as Jim P said, turn off the preview pane, OR be patient and wait for the searching for hyperlinks to complete. sometimes it takes a while. by crashing OE you are taking a chance on corrupting your data base. Are these yEnc encoded files? If so, you'll have that problem in the
combined message since OE doesn't understand yEnc and thinks it's just so much text. The way around that is to use a proxy yEnc decoder rather than an after the fact decoder. The proxy decoder typically converts the yEnc to Uuencode as it downloads before OE sees it. Then OE will properly decode that in the combined window. You still need to turn off the Preview Pane to avoid the hyperlink search at the pre-combine step. See the yEnc section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Jim" wrote in message ... Michael ...
Thanks for your help. 1. Yes the files are 'yEnc.' 2. Prior to IE7 ... I 'Combined and Decoded' tons of 'yEnc' files using OE. After combining the files, I would save them as 'email files.' Then use 'yEnc32 ... a program, to further decode them into .rar files. Absolutely no problem at all. However, I cannot now do on IE7 what I used to do on IE6. 3. Even with the 'Preview Pane' off ... I still get ... 'searching for hyperlinks' after the files have been Combined and Decoded, using OE and IE7. 4. Something has changed between IE6 and IE7 that will not allow me to do what I used to do. I appreciate your thoughts. I have always used Yproxy to convert/decode them in line as they are used.
it works as a proxy server very effeciently within OE or WM. and yeah it sometimes takes a while. patience is a virtue. "Jim" wrote in message ... Michael ... Thanks for your help. 1.
