Clicking on a hyperlink in Outlook Express brings up a screen with all my
files on it. Weird! What have I done and how can I get out of this loop? |

Sorry, I'm an elderly technophobe! Does it mean anything that I use Mozilla
Firefox as my Internet home page instead of Internet Explorer?? "Steve Cochran" wrote: See www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx steve "Genesfan" wrote in message ... ... Clicking on a hyperlink in Outlook Express brings up a screen with all my files on it. Weird! What have I done and how can I get out of this loop? What link? I can think of at least two which could cause this symptom. Another possibility would be a corrupted filetype but that wouldn't affect just OE. E.g. if it was being caused by a non-standard DDE value it would also affect any other non-IE apps you have which can use links. Right-click, Copy Shortcut and paste it in a reply if you need more help. --- |

I can't always copy and paste. If the link states, say, "Click here to
receive x" , or there is just a name. And sometimes when I try to highlight what I want to copy, up comes the page again with all a list of my files instead. The page which comes up has the File symbol against most of the items there
along with the dates but there is one at the bottom whose symbol is a box with blue & red dots in it. It is called .plugin141_03.trace. Could that be doing something to Outlook Express? Sorry to be so computer illiterate! "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote: "Genesfan" wrote in message ... Clicking on a hyperlink in Outlook Express brings up a screen with all my files on it. Weird! I shall assume IE7.
1. [Control Panel Add/Remove Programs ] Set Program Access and Defaults Browser: Select "Internet Explorer" here. If no joy, see: 2a. http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx 2b. Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Genesfan wrote: Windows XP Home edition "PA Bear" wrote: Windows and IE versions? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Genesfan wrote: Clicking on a hyperlink in Outlook Express brings up a screen with all my files on it. And sometimes when I try to highlight what I want to copy, up comes the page again with all a list of my files instead. Please read what I wrote. I don't want you to do a drag-select, copy the link's label. I want you to _right-click_ on the link. Tell us what you see when you try to do that. For example, one of the items that I am expecting that you will see is Copy Shortcut (with the u underlined). So, you could either click on that item or press u and the URL that is associated with that link would be copied to your ClipBoard, from where you could then paste it. You could also paste it into your IE Address bar and then press Enter. That could be a useful test, particularly if it produces a different result than what you are getting by left-clicking on the link. Note: in case you are using a mouse configured for left-handed use with the buttons reversed you should of course use the alternate buttons accordingly. Conventionally use of the primary mouse button is referred to by the expression "click or left-click" and the secondary button is referred to by the expression "right-click". HTH Robert --- |
