I am sure there is a way that Outlook Express 6.0 can delete E-Mails in the
Inbox folder that are over so many days old (I do mean E-Mails and not News Groups) but I can not seem to find out how to do so. I have E-Mails back as far as 2004 and silly enougth I thought after a certain period of time these E-Mails where automatically being deleted from the Inbox until now. I have lots of different folders for certain people and certain things and I regulary move E-Mails to the correct folders and I also delete those that are spam or not wanted. Needless to say E-Mails as far back as 2004 -2005 are not much needed. I know I can manualy delete thes files but I would much preffer to get Outlook Express 6.0 to do it for me and set it to do it for every 6 months say. i.e. any E-Mails it finds from the current date that are that old it deletes -- Del Boy 01 |

Tools | Message Rules | News.
Box 1: Where the message was sent more than days ago Box 2: Delete it & Stop processing more rules Box 3: Click on "Days" and choose the # of days you want. Name the rule. OE won't do this automatically. You will have to open the rule and Apply Now when you want it done. AFAIC, it is just as easy to click on the newest messages you want to delete and hold down the Shift key while you click the oldest message. This will highlight them all and Delete will remove them. That said, please read this. If you find messages being deleted by themselves, it is the beginning of a corrupt folder. Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. And backup often.
