Default Changed mail login doesn't stick

Hi,
A friend bought a WXP Media Center PC a few months ago. I helped him set up
his email account to access his account with a local ISP. He only accesses
the net ever week or two, but it has worked fine until today. The last time
he accessed his email was about two weeks ago and it worked fine. Today, it
was messed up and he called me.

The computer booted up fine for me, and when I started Internet explorer,
the default URL was something like
127.0.0.1:4664/&s=USZq4PS8bSWO-EYZPajXeoT7wk. I think I had set it up for
about:Blank when we set it up a few months ago. Today I changed it to
about:Blank, and it works correctly after reboot..

When I started Outlook Express, it wanted to send/receive using 127.0.0.1 as
the POP mail server and had an incorrect user name we had tried setting up a
few months ago.

I went to OE's Tools - Accounts - Mail tab - Servers tab
The Incoming mail (POP3) box contained 127.0.0.1, and I changed it to match
the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, which was correct. I also fixed the account
name and password. The Remember password box is checked (but it may be
grayed out). I clicked the Apply button and then the OK button.

After this change, Send/Receive works properly and downloaded a bunch of
mail. After closing OE and re-opening it, Send/Receive still worked
properly, accessing the account and indicating no new mail.

On reboot, it goes back to wanting to access the 127.0.0.1 POP server.

Does anyone have ideas on how to make the mail server changes permanent?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Start he

This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
