Is there a program available that simply allows only approved senders to go
to the Inbox and blocked senders to go to Deleted Items? Perhaps it could read the Windows Address Book for approved senders and senders not in it are seen as blocked senders. I think that would be a very effective and easy way to deal with spam. I would be surprised if there is not a simple freeware add-on for Outlook Express that would do this. |

Do a Google on "message rules" and you will get lots of helpful tips and hints. However, be careful with this type of rule. Your friends may not be able to send you their change of address when they hop to a new ISP. |

Just set it to divert anything that doesn't have your real address in the From line. Spams seldom do. |

Just set it to divert anything that doesn't have your real address in the From line. Spams seldom do. You mean "... in the To (or Cc) line". But I'm afraid that quite some spam *does* have the user's real address in the To line. Checking on a valid From, and considering everything else to (probably) be spam, is often better, but takes more maintenance because one has to add/change each new/changed sender in the message rule. Also don't put presumed spam in the Deleted Items folder, or at least don't empty that folder automatically, but put them in a (presumed) Spam or similar folder. |

Tools | Options | Message Rules | Mail | New.
Box 1 - Where the From line contains people {check it} Box 2 - Check: Delete it from server (Or Delete it & Stop processing more rules if you want messages not in the Address Book to go to Deleted Items). Box 3 - Click on the blue words Contains People Click on the first address to highlight it. Scroll down to the end and hold down the Ctrl key while you click on the last address. This will highlight them all. Right click on them and click on From in the menu that appears. Now click Options and Choose: Message *does not contain* the people below in the top Options box, and choose: Message matches any one of the people below in the bottom Options box. OK your way out of the new rule. Now, only addresses you entered will be downloaded. You will not see any other e-mail. Don't forget, if you add someone to your Address Book, you will have to add them to the rule. It will not be added automatically. Be sure to see these links for more options. Thanks for the replies. The Message Rule sounds like it would be too much
of a pain to maintain. I just want to find a program that integrates into OE that just does approved and blocked senders only. No SPAM detection using filters or anything just approved and blocked senders is all. Kind of like Outlook 2003. BTJustice "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... I don't know of any program that will do what you want.
I created a similar rule awhile back, but had messages not approved sent to a folder I called View Offline. As I got legit mail from places of business, bills, etc. I added the From address to the rule, but not the Address Book itself. It wasn't so hard and the only maintaining I have to do is if I start to get messages from a new place of business, I have to add it to the rule. That is about the best you can do with what OE has to offer. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Buford T. Justice" wrote in message news:k7ZGh.11$1g.2@trndny05... Thanks for the replies. Kind of like Outlook 2003. Well, there is a program which sort of does what you want, MailWasher [1]. As the name implies, MailWasher 'washes'/cleans your mail *before* you download it, and you only download 'washed'/clean mail to your e-mail client, i.e. in this case OE. The idea is that you maintain your blocked or/and approved senders list in MailWasher *instead of* in OE, i.e. no *extra* maintenance, only *different* maintenance. You can set several degrees of thoroughness in MailWasher, ranging from 'do nothing' to 'kill all spam and stamp it with both feet'. Please try it, I think you'll like it. More info on the website.
