When I copy and paste printed text to news group post, the line breaks from the original publication are retained and result in
something like: ------------------------------------------ POSTED 8:54 a.m. EST; UPDATED 9:21 a.m. EST, March 5, 2007 PACKERS CHASING BELL Bell was acquired by the Lions last week as part of the Dre' Bly deal. As we've reported, both Bell and former Broncos tackle George Foster are candidates to be traded again. We're also told that the Packers contacted the Bears about the availability of running back Thomas Jones, but the Bears said that he is not available. It remains to be seen whether the Bears would be willing to trade him to a team other than their intra-division arch-rivals. ------------------------------------------ I think it might have something to do with Tools/Options/Send/News Sending Format Can the off the automatic word wrap be disabled? |

Any hard carriage returns will be kept when you copy paste.
Additionally, OE will do wrapping on sending based on your settings in Tools, Options, Send, News, Plain Text Settings. IF you use MIME with Quoted-printable text encoding, OE will any additional wrapping up to the viewing program (the hard carriage returns from the original will still be there.). But the proper wrapping is dependent on the viewer using a MIME aware newsreader that will wrap the quoted-printable. Otherwise it will look even worse. If you are pasting only a few lines of text with the hard carriage returns, you can manually remove them after pasting. Once you get the hang of it you can do it pretty quickly. Start at the last line that has the break. Then press the END key, then Space bar Then DELETE key. That will put the line back together. Then press the up arrow key. And repeat END, Space bar, DELETE. If you have a lot of text, you might be interested in a utility for cleaning up messages, such as MessageCleaner http://www.roundhillsoftware.com/MessageCleaner -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "news.kal.sbcglobal.net" wrote in message t... Don't overlook the screwups that can happen due to Format=Flowed eg E.g. if you leave Format=Flowed in effect and you are using a much longer line size that the text you are quoting you either have to ensure that any trailing blanks have been removed or re-edit the composition in the Outbox. BTW that's one of the reasons I have been leaving extra blank lines after quoted text. That way at least one blank line will be left after F=F gets done with it. ; ) FYI Robert --- |

I doubt M$ understands what active people in newsgroups need and want. Here's my solution for correct formatting of any text to be posted in newsgroups: If you have Word installed then copy the text into Word, mark everything (ie. CTRL-A), then shrink the right side (ie. move the ruler some centimeters to left to have about 72 characters per line), then SaveAs, select "PlainText (*.txt)", then an extra popup opens. There chose "Other encoding" and select UTF-8, and enable "Insert line breaks" (this step is important). Now you have formatted the text, ie. defined the line length yourself, and saved it in a textfile. You now only need to open the txt file with the text editor (Notepad, included in Windows) and copy & paste into your message. Voila! :-) You don't need to use MIME or HTML etc. in newsgroups, just PlainText by using the above method. |

Thanks for the response. |

Don't have Word installed but copy and pasted a random paragraph to Word Pad and saved as text. It removed all of the existing line
breaks and made it one long line of text. Am posting it that way below to see how it looks. "You hate to get into that whole 'lack of respect' thing," Briggs said. "But you play four years for a team, do your best, exceed their expectations, right? And every year, it's like, 'You played great, Lance.' And they kind of dangle the carrot, like they're going to take care of you, and then it doesn't happen. I mean, I was a middle-round pick and I've played well for them. Four years and at just middle-round salaries. I haven't caused any kinds of problems. I've done everything they asked and them some. And I don't know if I ever really knew where I stood with them until they put the tag on me." |
