Default Error 0x800cccod & error 451 in smtp

Hi, I have had some problems with my internet service & OE when I tried to
send email. IT would show me the Error in 451 & 0x800.... such as errors when
I tried to send the email, and my internet service would be disconnected
right after. It was working fine untill I had reset my administrative
password in both my moden & the router?
Anybody can advise me regarding this?

The full text of the error message would be helpful. That includes the
server name, server type, port number, socket error code, SSL, etc. For
best results, copy/paste the error message rather than retyping it. You
should be able to highlight the message text in the error window (hold
down the left mouse button while dragging the mouse over the text).
Then press Ctrl-C (hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the C key) to
copy the highlighted text to the Windows clipboard. You can then paste
that text into the problem description using the Ctrl-V key combination.

The 451 error code comes from the SMTP mail server (or possibly your
anti-virus program if it's set to scan outgoing mail). The 451 error
code in general means:
451 Requested action aborted: error in processing

Typically there is some text following the 451 that identities the
specific problem.

In the future, start your own thread and use the correct newsgroup.

pop3 is not a valid server name.
Contact you Internet Service Provider for the pop3 and smtp information.

Default Error 0x800cccod & error 451 in smtp

This is usually caused by an anti-spam program or an anti-virus set to scan
email.

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added
protection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server names in
OE.

Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that OE
times out. Since some of the received messages have large (often virus)
attachments, which exasperates the problem.
Some Comcast users have found it necessary to totally uninstall Norton and
switch to the free AVG with mail scanning off. Norton invented email
scanning and here's what they say:

"Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...256c7500723cf0

"...your computer is protected if Auto-Protect is enabled. Auto-Protect
scans any incoming files, including email attachments, when the files are
saved to your hard drive."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01100907323806

"NAV provides multiple layers of protection. Email scanning is just one of
those layers. Even if you are not running Email Scanning, your computer is
protected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments by NAV
Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email
attachments, as they are saved to your hard drive. To make sure that
Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled
and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus
definitions."

So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff doesn't
have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If you
know anyone who programs for Norton try to get them to talk about it.

I encountered the same problems with Outlook 2000 (running on an old ME
desktop with Norton IS 2005) having switched ISP and gone to a LAN
connection. If security is switched off, emails downloaded and security
re-enabled again, send/receive emails seems to continue to work OK - I
appreciate the detailed comments about Anti-SPam not needed if Autoprotect is
enabled - this is just an alternative if people feel they still want another
comfort zone.
