All of a sudden, my OE6 hangs up. It shows I have 50 mesages in my inbox, and
is still receiving. I can not do anything with it. By reading some of the posts, I figured I needed to take my INBOX.DBX and rename it INBOX.OLD I did that and now I can use OE^ again bit I have none of the 50 messages. I have several questions: Is there a way to restore the old file? I opened it using notebook but I do not know what to delete. Or is there a utility program that can fix it? I used search to find the INBOX.DBX, but when I went to the folder it was in I could not display anything...is that normal? Just so you know I have now learned some lessons, I changed it to keep my mail on the server for a few days and I will try to clean out my inbox more and put stuff in other folders. -- Thanks Very Much! Rename it to Inboxold.dbx and then use one of these tools to recover the
messages. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently.
