Default Can't send from my domain - OE6 bizarre problem

I have a domain hosted by 1and1.co.uk.

I use their email and web forwarding facilities, but use the POP3 and SMTP
servers of my ISP and just fill in the Email Address and Reply to Address
fields in OE6 ToolsAccountsProperties with the email address that I wish
to use.

For ease, I shall refer to it as mydomain.co.uk

Now, I've been using two variations of my email address for some weeks.

The first contains my full name in the form

The second variation just uses my first name in the form

Bizarrely, and all of a sudden OE6 won't send using the shorter version. The
send progress box comes up, but the progress bar doesn't move. I've been
using the shorter version for about 3 weeks without problem.

The first thing I get is "Your SMTP server has not responded in 60
seconds..."

Then I get this "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a
long period of inactivity. Subject 'This', Account: 'xxxx', Server:
'smtp.xxxx.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

However, I don't think it's a server problem. Because *most importantly* the
problem does not exist with Thunderbird.

Obviously, I've replaced the server address with xxxx. Mainly because I
don't want to confuse the issue, because this problem isn't related to one
server. I've tried with my ISP's server and with two third party SMTP
providers that I use. Remember, it doesn't affect Thunderbird.

At this point I should point out that this problem is affecting both my
laptop and my desktop.

I can send to
without problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Simon.
