Default Does 'Repair OE', 'Fix OE', or 'OE Repair' actually work?

I went to http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/ and along the left side of the page
is a list of utilities, I guess you'd call them. I don't want to download
anything that is not useful but I can not seem to get OE working properly
again. Since I can not get my messages to download into OE and can not find
the POP3 file I was advised to delete I do not know what to do now. As
volunteers in this newsgroup you probably all know from all of my posts I've
been trying to get this problem resolved since 2/21/07 when I downloaded
updates which caused OE to stop working properly. It's been downhill from
then. Does anyone know if there is a way to 'fix' my OE and will one of these
(programs, utilities) help?

Linda,

You are not going to get good help if you keep starting new posts an do not
include previous replies you received and things you have tried. I don't
even remember what your original problem was. I did however reply just to
your post about a half hour ago regarding the Pop3uidl file.

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced. Uncheck: Leave a copy of
messages on the server. Then delete the Pop3uidl.dbx file. You will get the
messages one more time, but that should be it.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Pop3uidl.dbx}
and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

Thanks Bruce:
I did post another question in one of the old threads but didn't get a reply
so I thought after a certain length of time it was no longer being watched.
Sorry, I didn't know it would be better to continue in the old thread.
I just printed out your instructions and will follow them exactly, again.
Sorry to be such a ignorant pain and I do appreciate the help. If nothing
else, I'm determined to get this resolved somehow.

Went through all the steps. Ctrl+C, on my system, didn't work but I got
around that. I did everything and DID find the [POP3uidl.dbx] file and DID
delete it. I then reopened OE and still can't get my messages. I will have to
see if I can contact BellSouth today some time to get them to walk me through
getting rid of their files or whatever they have on here. Then I'll try this
again. I feel I did make headway since I was at least able to find that POP3
file that I've been trying to locate for almost 3 weeks now. I guess I'll
have to pray that the problem has something to do with BellSouth and once I
get those file out I might be able to get OE working properly again.
Thanks again.

Default Does 'Repair OE', 'Fix OE', or 'OE Repair' actually work?

I have gotten Bellsouth to walk me through taking all of their files out of
my system. I have checked all 3 of my identities again to make sure all of
the settings are correct and they are. I have found and deleted that
pop3uidl.dbx file twice now, once rebooting afterwards and before opening OE
until after rebooting. I still can not download my messages into OE. A couple
of strange things has happened, however. I did get 4 messages excluding the
one from Cox Cable welcoming me to Outlook Express, in one of my identities.
One of those 4 is a message from my daughter who lives in Maine which has a
lease application attached to it. This was also received about a week ago one
time. We don't know where this message came from but it does have my
daughter's email address as the sender. She doesn't have a lease application
nor does she have any idea where this would have come from. It's dated
3/21/07. I have another 3 messages all from my son stationed in the
Shreveport, LA area. It's a 'Power of Attorney' signed by him giving my
husband and I power of attorney for him while he was stationed in Japan. We
did the power of attorney while he in was in the states and this has 'NEVER'
been sent by email to or from us/him nor is it a computer originated
document. This power of attorney was done by JAG at a local military base.
This one is dated 3/27/07 and I've received it 3 times now. My daughter
received this same power of attorney message the other day which said it came
from me. It DID NOT! I had never seen it before except in the original paper
form which we have locked up in a safe at the bank. I don't understand what
is happeneing or where these few messages are coming from. If these freaky
messages are able to download I don't understand why all of the hundreds of
messages waiting for me on my server are unable to download. Do you have a
clue? Now what is left for me to do to try to get my messages to download
into OE?

Those messages you just received were /not/ at the WebMail site? Something
is screwy.

If you got a welcome message from Cox, which is standard, what is the
relationship with Bellsouth?

I am totally confused.

I use to have Bellsouth and some of their files were still on my system which
kept showing up when I opened my OE. It was the Bellsouth files that was
asking for my ID and Password when trying to send and receive messages. I
called Bellsouth and had them walk me through deleteing all of the Bellsouth

All I want to do is get the messages that are at my providers webmail page to

Since I've already deleted the pop3uidl.dbx file a couple of times and that

Are you in the Pacific time zone of the US?

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Servers.

Incoming setting:

pop.west.cox.net

Outgoing setting:

smtp.west.cox.net.

If these settings are correct, I have no more ideas. You will have to get
someone to look at your machine in person. I don't know why Cox will not
help though. They have always been good to me.

God luck.

your post about a half hour ago regarding the Pop3uidl file.

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced. Uncheck: Leave a copy
of
messages on the server. Then delete the Pop3uidl.dbx file. You will
get
the
messages one more time, but that should be it.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location
of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put
the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise,
write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by
default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must
enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder
Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question
{Pop3uidl.dbx}
and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open
OE.

find
the POP3 file I was advised to delete I do not know what to do now.
As
volunteers in this newsgroup you probably all know from all of my
posts
I've
been trying to get this problem resolved since 2/21/07 when I
downloaded
updates which caused OE to stop working properly. It's been downhill
from
then. Does anyone know if there is a way to 'fix' my OE and will one
of
these
(programs, utilities) help?

Default Does 'Repair OE', 'Fix OE', or 'OE Repair' actually work?

For what it's worth

In past post she said she is in the state of Louisiana.

Perhaps she should inform what settings are displayed on the server tab.
