Firewall and Auto Update - off;
Not good! Did /you/ disable the firewall and Automatic Updates (AU)? If so, why? [The firewall should *never* be disabled. Unless you /religiously/ check-in at Windows Update *daily*, shouldn't be disabled: Select AU's Notify Only option instead. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306525.] *Important!* = If AU is disabled, how did KB905902 get installed? Does its install date (03 Apr-07) coincide with the inability to use new identities? ....with the firewall and AU being disabled? I have tried uninstalling IE7 before with no correction to the problem so I reinstalled. See http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install. Were *all* components of NAV and Stopzilla disabled prior to installing /and/ uninstalling IE7? I have no updates under IE7 There should be at least two (2), as of this reply: KB929969 (Jan-07) and KB928090 (Feb-07). Under Windows XP: Security Update... You have none of the updates released on Tuesday, 10 Apr-07, installed (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...s07-apr.mspx): otherwise you look to be OK. In conclusion, I see 2 possible culprits he (1) horked installs/uninstalls of IE7 and/or (2) issues introduced with the install of KB925902 on 03 Apr-07. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Tim wrote: Firewall and Auto Update - off; AV - Norton, on and up-to-date Realtime spyware protection is StopZilla (engine v4.4.6.9 (11/30/06), definitions v4.4.7.58 (4/9/07)) I have tried uninstalling IE7 before with no correction to the problem so I reinstalled. What's wrong is still TBD", I was hoping you had a magic bullet in your pocket. I checked with the mail providers again and everything is 'fine' on their end and the addresses I have with them are okay. They both say the problem is with OE and they can't do anything about that. "PA Bear" wrote: I know I can have multiple mail accounts per identity, but would that also allow me to have different names in the 'From:' when I send an e-mail? Yes, just double-click on FROM. OE will use the default mail account when beginning a new message. When Replying to or Forwarding a message, OE will use the account to which the original message was sent. To avoid confusion and afford some privacy, it would probably be preferable for each of you to have your own, password-protected User Profile and, therefore, your own identity in which is running only your mail account.
