"i_takeuti" . ne.jp wrote in message news:... "Mhask" wrote in message ... Hi guys, I've had this problem for a couple of weeks now, and have been searching through newsgroups for a solution. I've tried a lot of things including all the suggestions I could find here, and nothing has worked so far. I'm running Win'98, IE6, Outlook Express 6 and AVG Free virus scan and the problem just popped up one day while I was going through my newsletters. Up to that point I had no problems. When I click on a link in my TechRepublic newsletters an IE window opens and says "The page cannot be displayed," and in the Title Bar it says "Cannot find server." I've made sure to have all the Windows updates available, I've reregistered all the dll files as suggested here in some previous posts, I tried changing my default browser as someone else suggested (which did then work), but when I changed back to IE it stopped working again. I uninstalled a recently-installed IE-based browser (SlimBrowser), although I had that for awhile before the problem came up. I cleaned out all my default OE folders and moved stored mail to my own newly created folders. I also uninstalled AVG and reinstalled it with the mail-scan turned off. One new possible clue occurred when I tried to edit "File Types" under "Folder Options" - although I made changes suggested in previous posts, the "Apply" button remains grayed-out... Not sure if that means anything or not, but thought I'd better throw it in. Hope this is enough info to start with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike H |
