![]() The PC is running XP Home with SP2 and auto updates. Everything was working OK until recently. Now I get an error when trying to get on to my mail account. There is a second system on my LAN that works normally. I am using the same account information on both boxes. The box with the problem is using IE7; the other is still on IE6. I get the failure report with the message 0x800CCC90. I have checked the Knowledge Base and tried the fixes proposed there all to no avail. I have checked and rechecked the Toolsaccountsproperties and they are identical. I have deleted the mail account and added it back in. Nothing changes the failure. BTW, I can send mail and I can send and read newsgroups. One utility I have available is Gabriel Topala's "System Info for Windows". Using this to investigate the details of OE6 shows that everything is identical with one glaring exception. Where the good system shows the POP 3 user name correctly the failing box displays the password instead. I went back and rechecked again that on the server tab the name and password are in the correct boxes. No wonder I get the error that translates to "rejected by server". How is this rectified? Charlie If you have Norton or McAfee uninstall them. If you have any other anti-virus turn off email scanning. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Answer in newsgroup.
