I have received a few emails from a friend who writes to me all of the time
but now I am having trouble opening the attachments. The attachments are " Message5.txt(97.3 kb). I have tried saving them and renaming them EML but still when I try to open I receive a page in note pad that looks to be encrypted.I have also unchecked the box for security in the options drop down. I checked with the sender and she said she did nothing different in sending them. Anyone have any ideas on this one? Thanks Herb -- Later Gator Herb (Chip) & Roxanne |

I no she is using Outlook I am not sure about the RTF formatting. But up
until this point I have never had any problems opening her email attachments. I also forgot to mention that I just recently installed Service Pack 2 and all of the security downloads. I was wondering if this could be part of the problem? Thanks Again!! -- Later Gator Herb (Chip) & Roxanne |

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you. Short version: Ask this sender to only use Plain Text formatting when sending to you, especially if there's an attachment. Outlook's RTF formatting just doesn't "agree" with OE. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Chip and Roxanne wrote: I no she is using Outlook I am not sure about the RTF formatting. If the EML files open in Notepad, then you need to fix your EML file
association. Notepad is the wrong program. The cannot find error message means that you had a typo in the command.
Copy/paste the following into the Start, Run: "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg The quotes are required and there must be one of more spaces before the /reg. If the command is successful, it produces no output. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Chip and Roxanne" wrote in message ... E.g. a renamed zip file could have a similar appearance. Etc. Did your friend explain what the file is supposed to be? And how it was created? Also ask what the original size was. A truncated E-mail in plain text might not be decoded correctly and result in gibberish. What is the message format of the E-mail? If it is MIME look for more clues about the attachment in its headers, such as Content-type: etc. I have also unchecked the box for security in the options drop down.
