I understand that even though I have deleted my email messages from the
folders they still exist on the database. How do I permanently delete all email from the database? -- Irene |

Compacting your folders is the best you can do. Can they still be recovered?
Possibly using a tool that checks the HDD for fragmented messages. The CIA, FBI or Homeland Security could certainly recover enough to find what they needed to know. The only way to be sure is to remove the hard drive and run a D8 Cat over it a few times. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Irene" wrote in message ... I have nothing to fear! I just want to free some memory or would I be just
gaining some space on my hard drive by deleting all the files? I heard on the radio that you can go onto the database and delete the files by searching *.*. dsb but the search doesn't find anything. My browser is always telling me that I am low on memory, I have deleted all my files and the message still keeps on coming up. Do you know anything else that I can do to free some memory? -- Irene "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Compacting your folders is the best you can do. Can they still be recovered? That should be *.dbx .
Have you emptied your Recycle Bin? OE stores backup files in the Recycle Bin each time you compact OE folders. -- Ronald Sommer "Irene" wrote in message ... :I have nothing to fear! Delete all messages you don't need and then compact your folders:
Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Empty the Recycle Bin. Clear your TIFs. For IE6: Clear the Temporary Internet Files: In IE | Tools | Internet Options | Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content. For IE7: Tools | Internet Options | General Tab | Browsing History | Delete Temporary Internet Files. Run a Defrag. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Irene" wrote in message ... I have nothing to fear!
