Default Emails suddenly stopped getting through!!

Help!

Suddenly my email stopped coming in on my main PC and getting this error
message below. Yet on my second PC with exactly the same account settings
the emails getting through. Tried removing account and creating new again,
tried restarting PC but still my main PC will not receive email.

Any thoughts?

Ken

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'xxxxxxxx', Server: 'xxxxxxxx', Protocol: POP3, Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

1. On the Servers Tab

a. Change the Incoming mail (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) settings
to:

1. Incoming mail FROM pop3.email.msn.com TO pop3.live.com

2. Outgoing mail FROM smtp.email.msn.com TO smtp.live.com

b. Uncheck the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box

2. On the Advanced Tab

a. Change the port number for Incoming Mail (POP3) from 110 to 995

b. Check both the boxes that indicates "This server requires a
secure
connection (SSL)"

Under Incoming Mail Server/ account name: enter your entire email
address:
, not only the user name.

I had the same problem and this works.

Default Emails suddenly stopped getting through!!

Hi Bruce
Tried turning off Norton antivirus but no good.
I am automatically getting Microsoft updates and all up to date.
Leaving until tomorrow and hope it sorts itself out while I am not sitting
on the PC getting more and more tired trying to resolve.
However I am really grateful for your tips.

You are not up-to-date. Your message headers read:

Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2869

If you were up-to-date, they would read:

Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3028

Get rid of Norton and get Avast, (freeware).

Hi Bruce

Mystery deepens and you are right it should read 3028 which it does on my
second PC! I assume this indicates I (on my main PC) am missing a load of
updates which I will explore tomorrow. I may get my PC fixing guy out and
ask him to sort out as I think I am due for a spring clean and reformat.

Again thank you for helping.

You're welcome.

In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident
Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't
know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.

Avast:
