Sorry, I just went back into Outlook Express and it does have "Main
Identity" listed. Also I notice when I reply to you in OE I get a message about a program trying to access my address book. The program is actually "Outlook" not OE when I hit reply???? "Carmen O'Donnell" wrote in message news:eYn1i.7594$cu1.2179@trnddc01... I'm not sure what I did, but I did get a "shortcut to wab" file on my desktop. I opened Accessories and pasted the "Shortcut to wab" in there I closed it out and now when I go to : Start/Programs/Accessories and an icon that says "Shortcut to .wab"is there but am not sure what to do now. There is no "real" identity . No "person's name" Before I did all this, I think it just said "main identity" which is also how it was listed in Outlook Express when I reinstalled the address book. I had done that with a program called" email backup". When I open OE, the left column says "Local Folders" with the Inbox, Outbox etc as sub folders. The is no"person's name" identity listed. What do I do now. Can I just "add an identity by putting my name in it? Are you sorry you answered me now ![]() Carmen ![]() "Kuay Tim" wrote in message ... Hi Carmen, I don't know why there isn't a shortcut to the default Windows Address Book on the Accessories menu -- perhaps someone can provide this information. It is relatively easy to add a shortcut to the menu, however. Try the wab/ open switch first (see below). Look for the User Name.wab file. Open the address book to confirm it is the address book you use. There is another way is to open the folder containing the address book. The path to the address book file can be found by opening the address book. From the Help menu choose About. Copy the path and paste in Notepad (this step is not mandatory, but might make it easier). Remove the file name (/user name.wab) from the end. Copy the remaining text. Paste this in the Start, Run box and OK. Once the folder is opened The folder containing the address book file will be opened. Right-Click on the file and choose Create Shortcut. The shortcut can be renamed. Example: Rename "shortcut to user name.wab to "Address Book" Right-click on the shortcut and choose Copy. Next, Right-click on the Windows Start button and choose Explore. Expand Start Menu | Programs Click on Accessories to open that folder Right-click in the folder and choose Paste The shortcut to the address book should now be available in Accessories. Important: Use only shortcuts in the Start Menu | Programs folders. It should also be possible to find the address book folder/file by entering wab /open in the Start | Run box Reference OLEXP: Command-Line Switches for Windows Address Book (Wab.exe) http://support.microsoft.com/default...25&Product=oex -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Carmen O'Donnell" wrote in message news:1ik1i.30785$Ae.29091@trnddc07... When I go to Start/Accessories, I do not have an entry for Address Book. HP recently helped me to reformat and I wonder if there is a way I can get an entry for a 'windows address book. Is this a file you need to "create" and if so, how do I do it. I do have an address book in Outlook Express which I had a backup for and that is how I got my email address? I'm not sure I'm posting to the correct group but it seems like someone here might be able to help me? Thanks for any and all replies, Carmen |
