Default email very slow

I have had this happen twice, OE 6.0 trying to download 3 emails but `timing
out` so cant get at my incoming email, the last time I did a reboot and that
sorted it but not happening this time.
What causes this?
and is there a way to stop say those 3 from downloading to get my other
emails? (I get about 20 a day)
Last time I thought maybe a large file but not the case.

thanks

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

As far as /those/ 3 messages from downloading, a message rule may work, but
you have to be more specific about where those 3 messages a coming from.

If you are using Hotmail, then you need to create the rules on the Website,
and not in OE.
